Education research workshop 2: Education research methods and design

-

When you have an idea for an education research study, the next step is getting down to the details: which method(s) will best address your research questions, and when, where, and how will you do this? Join EDLAB’s upcoming workshop, “Education research methods and design” on Thursday 26 March from 13:30-15:30 to explore these and other related matters!

In this workshop led by resident expert Gabriella Tisza, you’ll gain an overview of different methods commonly used in education research, as well as insight into the strengths and weaknesses of each, and what to consider when combining methods. You’ll also get to explore aspects of education research design and planning, such as timing, scope, ethics, sampling, and how the intended audiences for your research might influence your choices.

Meet the workshop facilitator

Gabriella Tisza, PhD is an educational psychologist and an assistant professor at Maastricht University, where she works within the Taskforce Programme Evaluation on ensuring the educational quality of the Bachelor of Medicine programme. In parallel, within the School of Health Professions Education, she conducts research on the responsible integration of technology and artificial intelligence in education, aiming to support the meaningful use of technology in learning activities. Before joining Maastricht University, she completed her PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology, where she investigated the role of fun in learning, particularly within STEM education. Her research combined insights from psychology, education, technology, and data analysis to develop a model explaining how enjoyment contributes to learning outcomes.

This workshop is the second in a professional development series dedicated to supporting Maastricht University staff who want to learn to conduct research on their own education practice. The series covers a variety of topics including but not limited to education research design, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research communication. It will be supplemented by the launch of a UM-wide community of practice on education research later this spring, as well as the UM Education Research Day conference coming up in November.
