Daniel Schnok, alumnus BA European Studies
The Bachelor in European studies has allowed me to gain a real insight in European affairs from many different viewpoints. I have studied the European Union and its Member States from a historical, economical and law perspective which is essential if you want to know what the European project really is. It is exactly this multi-facetted approach that wakes your own interests and encourages you to specialize further.
Apart from the core courses about European history or institutions the university provides you with skills courses that enhance your ability to work in an international environment as well as helping you with structuring and writing papers, summaries and understanding statistics. In the end both your academic work and your professional skills are benefitting from the interesting and helpfully designed courses. The international atmosphere at FASoS and the university is intellectually stimulating and challenging at the same time. Your students have always a different perspective and reflect very much the public opinion in Europe itself, that’s why the debates in the tutorials count as the most interesting ones I’ve ever had and still leave a good impression and let you reconsider your own opinion and critically assess your own ideas.
What made the study programme really enjoyable in the end was the range of activities you can engage in. I was engaged in the international MUN society, which concentrates on international relations and organizing a multinational conference and our study association that organized lectures and debates. As a European Studies student you can apply the acquired skills directly at the wide range of extracurricular activities.
