Danai Petropoulou Ionescu (D.)

Danai Petropoulou Ionescu is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Public Law of the Faculty of Law and the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Maastricht University. Her work focuses on EU regulatory governance, and the intersections between EU politics and EU law.

In addition to her official roles at Law and FASoS, Danai is a member of the Executive Board of FEM (Female Empowerment UM) where she works with UM administrative and academic staff to promote and support gender equity and equality at the University.

Through her research and teaching philosophy, Danai is dedicated to supporting and promoting diversity and inclusivity in the classroom and academic administration.

Expertise

Danai's expertise focuses on aspects of good governance at various levels of the EU regulatory system - e.g. at an institutional or an organisation context - both in theory and practice.

Specifically, Danai's research has centred around the legitimacy of soft governance practices and mechanisms at the EU level - for instance, in terms of participation and transparency.

Additionally, Danai's work focuses on the value of diversity and inclusivity in teaching, research, and administrative practices in academic settings.

Education:

  • MSc European Studies (Cum Laude), Maastricht University, 2021
  • BA Arts and Culture, Maastricht University, 2019.
