Brightlands
Maastricht University (UM) is a founding member of Brightlands, a collaborative initiative where 30,000 entrepreneurs, researchers, and students tackle global challenges in food, health, circular chemistry and materials, data science, and smart digital services.
At Brightlands we innovate from both entrepreneurship and science. Academic knowledge is transformed into new products by companies and startups, while researchers and students apply this knowledge to create innovative applications. All this is stimulated by strong partnerships between government, knowledge institutes, and businesses.
Brightlands provides access to a vast knowledge network including UM, MUMC+, TU Eindhoven, RWTH Aachen University, University of Hasselt, Fraunhofer, the Open University, and TNO.
Together, they have established new public-private institutes such as AMIBM, Brightlands Materials Center, BISCI, BISS, Food Claims Centre, M4I, and MERLN. The campuses also offer educational programs at higher education institutes.
