Admission exam, Colloquium Doctum Law
If you do not satisfy the admission requirements, you may qualify for an entrance exam, the ‘Colloquium Doctum’. The Colloquium Doctum committee uses the results of this exam to determine whether you can be admitted to the bachelor’s programme.

- You have reached the age of 21 at the start of the academic year, for which you wish to enrol
- You meet the language requirements
Content of the Colloquium Doctum
The Colloquium Doctum comprises two components. Your language skills and your knowledge for history will be examined. The first part consist of three written language tests. The history test will be taken orally on a second exam day. You may only take part of the history test after you have succeeded all the written exams.
Language test
You provide written answers to questions about a text in two modern languages, or summarise the content of the text; for the purpose of testing your knowledge of German, French or Dutch. The texts are selected from the following daily newspapers: ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine’, ‘Le Monde’, ‘NRC-Handelsblad’, or any other appropriate daily or weekly publication.
You write an essay, in English, on the basis of one or several articles from ‘The Times’ or the ‘International Herald Tribune’ or any other appropriate daily or weekly publication. Or you write an analysis of such an article. Selection is at the discretion of the Commission.
History test
You answer questions on European history from 1789 until the present, with special attention to the candidate’s analytical thinking skills. The history test is an oral test in English.
You may take the oral test only after you have successfully completed the written part of the Colloquium Doctum.

Examination dates
The Colloquium Doctum is organised once a year.
- The written part of the examination (the language component) will take place on Wednesday, 17 May 2023. The resit will take place on Friday, 2 June 2023
- The oral examination (history) is held on Tuesday, 13 June 2023 and the resit for history is held on Tuesday, 27 June 2023
Application
Applications for Colloquium Doctum 2023 has to be received by the Colloquium Doctum Commisision, no later than April 15,2023. You also need to apply prior to 1 May 2023for the bachelor programme via Studielink.

Registration fee
The Colloquium Doctum costs € 100.
For participation in written and oral resits, the registration fee of 100 Euro needs to be paid again.
