The Executive Board is ultimately responsible for the policies of the university, including the appointment of deans, directors and professors. The Board can also initiate new programmes and related research institutes and is responsible for managing finances and other management tasks.
Vice-Rector for Education
The Vice-Rector for Education is not a member of the Executive Board, but has been mandated to monitor educational quality and the implementation of improvement programmes that emerge either internally or externally. The Vice-Rector reports to the Executive Board and closey coordinates with the Management Team.
The management philosophy of Maastricht University focuses on decentralization. The Executive Board has delegated many responsibilities to the faculty deans. They are responsible for the overall management of the faculty. Also see the Board of Deans, the members of the Executive Board are appointed by the Supervisory Board. The Executive Board is supported by the Secretary to the Executive Board.

Expense claims regulation Executive Board
In 2011, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science made it a requirement for universities to publish the expense claims of individual Executive Board members in the annual report. Additionally, as of 2012, universities must publish the expenses of individual board members on their organisational websites annually.
