Annual appraisals are regular meetings between an employee and line manager to discuss the performance of both parties.
The meetings work on the principle of equal rights to express views on the other’s performance, with the aim of promoting effective and fruitful cooperation. They focus on how and under what conditions employees will fulfil their tasks in a set future period, with due observance of their performance in the preceding period.
Anything job-related may be discussed such as:
- working conditions
- working relations
- job content
- (further) training possibilities
- wishes and options for another job within Maastricht University or elsewhere
Attention is also paid to the employee’s personal development plan (POP), including any training courses and/or learning objectives deemed necessary for the employee to continue performing well. Any wishes or needs regarding internal and external mobility can be indicated in this plan.
Employees themselves can initiate their annual appraisals, and can request the HR adviser's presence.

Make use of the Annual appraisal and POP form during the annual appraisal.
