Meet our interns!
Together, this international group of motivated students speaks 9 different languages. Their research interests in the fields of property law, private international law, art law, IP law, company law, law and technology, consumer law, and comparative law, just to name a few, are equally diverse. The unifying element is, of course, private law!
Interns for the 2025-2026 Academic Year
Julia Bajer
Julia is in her second year of studying to obtain her L.L.B. in European Law. She is from Poland and speaks both Polish and English. Her newfound interests lie within private law and she is fascinated by topics related to AI, data protection and intellectual property rights. Passionate about the evolving legal landscape, she closely follows how legal systems are adapting to rapid advancements in AI and technology.
Francesca Bianchini
Francesca is a final-year ELS student in Maastricht. Her academic interests focus on the intersection of private law, technology regulation and sustainability. She is also interested in the human rights implications of digital governance and the broader question of how private law can contribute to more equitable and sustainable socio-economic structures. Through the M-EPLI internship, she hopes to refine her research focus, strengthen her methodological skills and explore innovative approaches to the future of private law.
Derin Kalkan
Derin was driven to study law by her Turkish heritage and her interest in politics and international diplomacy. She is currently studying to obtain her LL.B in European Law. Within Private Law, she is especially drawn to Contract Law and Sustainable Property Law. Moreover, she is passionate about exploring how emerging artificial intelligence technologies are redefining the modern legal landscape.
Haneen Kawash
Haneen raises unique interdisciplinary questions in private law matters. She is currently completing her LLB with a minor in Human and Legal Decision-making and a minor in Law and Technology. She finds herself attached to contract, commercial, and corporate law, while also possessing expertise in technology, neuroscience, and their intersection with law.
Karoline Koss
Karoline is currently in the final year of her Bachelor of European Law and speaks both English and German. Her interests encompass the role of company law in sustainability, and the art law field. She is interested in exploring these areas of law from an international, comparative perspective.
Lucas Mechelaere
Lucas is currently studying to obtain his L.L.B. in European Law. His primary interests lie in private law, especially intellectual property law, the intersection of law and artificial intelligence, and sustainability-related legal issues. He speaks Slovak, Hungarian, and English, which allows him to navigate diverse cultural and professional environments. Lucas aims to build a career where he can contribute to responsible innovation and forward-thinking corporate practices.
Kaan Stassen
Kaan is currently pursuing a MSc in Governance and Leadership in European Public Health alongside a BSc in European Law at Maastricht University. Originally from Amsterdam, with Dutch, German, and Turkish heritage, he brings a cross-cultural perspective to his studies and work. Kaan’s research interests lie at the intersection of health policy and European legal systems, especially in regulatory areas affecting public health, such as chemical safety and consumer protection. He is eager to contribute to projects that tackle complex, real-world challenges in European private law.
Lara Stassen
Lara Stassen is of Dutch, German, and Turkish background. She is particularly interested in intellectual property and technology law within the field of private law. Alongside these interests, she is also drawn to aspects of public law, especially tax law. Lara enjoys learning how these legal fields interact with one another.
