A palm beach or kitchen island may not be suitable backgrounds for webinars, online meetings or events. A professional background is often a better option.
Developed for use in Microsoft Teams meetings, this virtual UM background is available in three versions:
Virtual backgrounds for faculties and other organisational units
In addition to the general UM backgrounds, specific virtual backgrounds have been developed for faculties and other organisational units. These can be used, for example, for online events such as open days. The idea behind the use of these backgrounds is to give the participant an impression of the university environment.

Empowering Smallholder Farmers in Data-Driven Agriculture Through Blockchain Technology
Wouldn’t it be nice, as an incoming international student at Maastricht University (UM), to have a buddy in Maastricht who can help ease your transition to living in your new city? Someone who can tell you about the cheapest places to shop, the best places to eat and fun places to go dance? And someone who can introduce you to other new international students at social events? That’s what the International Student Ambassador Programme (ISAP), or the UM buddy programme, is all about—helping you to quickly feel at home in Maastricht.
Timeline and costs
The ISAP Buddy Programme is structured into three blocks, each spanning five weeks, during which we organise five different social events:
- first block: end of August to end of September
- second block: November to December
- third block: February to March
Each block costs €30 to join, which covers the total cost of all five social events in the block. There is a separate registration for each block, so you choose which block(s) you want to participate in.
Types of activities
Previous ISAP activities have featured a variety of activities focused on helpful information, cultural activities, fun places in Maastricht and Dutch traditions, such as:
- informative sessions with MyMaastricht.nl
- explorations of city highlights like cave tours
- visits to the renowned Bonnefanten Museum
- glow-in-the-dark mini golf
- pub quiz night
- ‘borrelen’ and game night
- Sinterklaas gift exchange
- Bowling night and drinks
To get a glimpse of these events and join in the fun with your ambassador/buddy, check us out on Instagram or TikTok.
“Being a part of ISAP has enabled me to settle easily into the Maastricht community. While the activities they organised were extremely fun and some enabled me to gain significant information on Maastricht and Dutch culture in general, I also was able to make friends with a lot of like-minded people in different faculties who I never would have met without ISAP.”
Leyla, Exchange student
“I’m so glad I joined ISAP! I got to meet people from all faculties and cultures, make lasting friendships and discover more of what this city has to offer. Maastricht feels more like home to me now!”
Maïlys, Medical student
"Coming from a place outside the EU could have been a challenge. But thankfully, ISAP and the lovely people that are part of it were willing to help and explain what the priorities are here and how we should go about it.”
Jorge, Data Science master’s student
How to become an ISAP buddy
Interested in joining the ISAP community as an ambassador next year? Applications for upcoming academic year are now open. Don’t wait too long to sign up as deadline is May 24th and we have limited spots.
Visit our ISAP Ambassador webpage and learn more on how to register. Become a buddy for new international students.

Print
Maastricht University put out a printing tender in accordance with European legislation. A tender was submitted for two different packages, namely:
Standard printing
This includes business cards, envelopes, folders, and compliment and correspondence cards. Andi Smart Print Solutions, a company based at Maastricht Airport in Beek, was contracted to handle our standard printing needs. All standard print jobs, with the exception of business cards, can be sent to Andi Smart Print Solutions' ordering portal. Username: medewerker, password: um
Special printing
Special prints include brochures, posters, flyers, cards, invitations, annual reports, folders, etc. A variety of options are available for printing these types of products.
Two suppliers have been selected for special print jobs: Andi Smart Print Solutions and de Bondt Grafimedia Communicatie (Barendrecht).
You can order special prints in three ways:
1. Through the publishing platform. You will need to request an account via: support-platform@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
2. Directly through one of the two suppliers (if you have access to print-ready files).
3. Through a preferred supplier (design agency). In this case, the design agency is the primary contractor and is not required to submit the document to one of the two contracted suppliers.
Please note: According to the tender regulations, you must request a quote from all two suppliers for orders that exceed 5000 euros. You can then choose one of the two suppliers.
Print jobs
UM printing services are managed by ICTS and supplied by Canon. For more information, please go to the My Print page.
Design and layout
Design and layout work does not fall under the printing tender. Please contact one of the preferred suppliers to discuss the options.

Media strategy, purchasing and planning
The ministry of General Affairs has issued a European tender for the procurement of media strategy, purchasing and planning. A joint action by all Dutch ministries, almost all government institutions are participating in this tender, which can be applied on a large scale. An example includes the discounts offered by media purchasing (Telegraaf, Persgroep, NRC etc.) by an average of 23%. Universities are also participating.
The tender was won by Initiative Media, a media agency that gives advice on all aspects of marketing and communications. The contract runs from 2021 to 2026.
Maastricht University has decided to join in carrying out this tender. This means that the parties involved are obliged by the government to enable the media strategy and planning from Initiative Media. This is a difference from previous contracts, which were only media purchasing, while this new contract includes mechanisms for media strategy and planning, an essential difference.
Outside of the scope of this tender are services that we conduct in-house and the creation and production of materials.
The main contact for UM is the DPC (Department of Public and Communication) Service Centre, as many self-placements are made from UM. For self-placements, the e-mail addresses and contacts below can be contacted.
DPCServicecenter@initiative.com: for General questions, campaign advice questions, operational explanations and billing questions

DPCDigital@initiative.com: for selfplacements Online
