Learning to thrive: Student Guidance Day 2026

-

How can we help students grow through challenges and thrive during and beyond their studies?

Join us on 1 October, from 09.00 to 17.00 at EDLAB, for the Student Guidance Day 2026. Together, we will explore how student guidance can contribute to students' personal development, resilience, wellbeing, and engagement with society.

Please register by 23 September to help us organise the day.

Programme

The day will be opened by Rector Magnificus Jan Smits and features two keynote sessions that approach student guidance from different perspectives.

In the opening keynote, Stronger in society: from pressure to perform to meaningful growth, colleagues from Maastricht University reflect on how we can support students in developing resilience, purpose, and a sense of belonging.

The second keynote by Rune Mastrup Lauridsen and Tine Wåst Nielsen from the University of Southern Denmark explores how higher education can prepare students for an uncertain world and what role guidance plays in helping them build a meaningful relationship with themselves and society.

Throughout the day, you can choose from a range of interactive workshops and parallel sessions on topics including student wellbeing, advising, diversity and inclusion, innovative guidance practices, organisational approaches, and student perspectives. There will also be plenty of opportunities to continue the conversation with colleagues from across the university and exchange experiences.

Open to all UM staff

Whether you work directly with students, design education, shape policy, conduct education research, support student services, or are simply interested in student guidance, you are warmly invited to participate.

We look forward to welcoming you to EDLAB!
