Symposium: Addressing wicked problems in the region: from buzzwords to educational practice
We are pleased to invite you to a symposium on interdisciplinary education on 8 October 2026 at EDLAB/Tapijn, titled Addressing wicked problems in the region: from buzzwords to educational practice.
Across higher education, many institutions and organisations are working to address today’s complex societal challenges from multiple perspectives, while creating environments for learning, innovation, and collaboration that cross disciplinary academic and professional boundaries. While this ambition is central to many educational innovations, translating it into everyday educational practice often remains challenging.
We warmly invite practitioners, local partners, teachers, researchers, policymakers, and students from different educational institutions interested in interdisciplinary educational practices to join us in sharing ideas, experiences, and challenges. Our aim is not only to inspire dialogue, but also to explore how we can move from ambition to action together.
Programme
During keynote sessions and parallel workshops, we will explore questions such as:
- How can we break down barriers between programmes and institutions to bring students from different disciplinary backgrounds together in our region?
- How can we create meaningful and sustainable collaborations between students, educators, and local stakeholders that benefit all parties?
- How can we rethink our roles as educators in collaborative learning environments that require more flexible learning trajectories?
This symposium is intended as more than a conversation about interdisciplinary education. It is an opportunity to exchange practical experiences, learn from initiatives already taking place in the region, and build new connections across institutions and sectors. Participants will leave with concrete ideas, new perspectives, and opportunities for future collaboration.
