Reconnecting the brain and body: how to control devices with your thoughts
Diseases such as ALS or locked-in syndrome disrupt the connection between the brain and the body. This makes it difficult or even impossible for patients to move or speak. However, their brains remain fully intact, and they can still form thoughts.
Paul Weger (MHeNs) is investigating how he can link this brain activity to a robotic arm. This would allow patients to control the arm with their thoughts and thus regain their independence.
