Interview with Aruzhan Kuztayeva, Student Ambassador Media Studies: Digital Cultures 2024-2025
Why did you choose to study Media Studies: Digital Cultures in Maastricht?
“I chose this programme because I’m really interested in the multidisciplinary approach it offers. I enjoy a wide range of subjects, especially in social sciences and humanities, like psychology and media technologies. This programme perfectly blends those fields, which is why I wanted to study here.”
What do you enjoy most about your studies?
“What I enjoy most about this programme is its practical approach. The lessons are hands-on, allowing me to immediately apply what I’ve learned to real-life situations. Since media technologies and social media are everywhere, it's great to work with these tools directly. I’m looking forward to gaining practical experience and refining my skills in podcasting, 3D programming and various writing styles.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“In five years, I see myself working in the creative industry. I’m not sure of the exact role yet, but I know I want to work in a creative environment, maybe at a publishing house or a creative marketing agency. My dream is to design book covers or work with media technologies in a creative way.”
How do you like living in Maastricht?
“I really enjoy living in Maastricht. It’s a cosy city, very green with lots of trees, and I live in a peaceful, scenic area outside the city centre. My favourite activity so far has been visiting the Friday markets to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and chat with local merchants.”
