Globalization & Law Network seminar with Luigi Lonardo
On 28 November 2023, the Globalization & Law Network held a seminar featuring Dr Luigi Lonardo (University College Cork). Lonardo delivered an inspiring talk based on his latest book ‘Russia's 2022 War Against Ukraine and the Foreign Policy Reaction of the EU’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). The discussion was led by Dr Gergana Noutcheva (Maastricht University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences).
Lonardo’s presentation delved into the diplomatic, political, and legal aspects of the EU's response to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. Key topics addressed in the talk include the EU's diplomatic strategies, Ukraine's application for EU membership, and the policy and legal dimensions of the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus. By blending law and international relations scholarship, Lonardo offered a unique multidisciplinary perspective on rapidly developing and challenging issues. The talk was followed by a lively discussion regarding the geopolitical-strategic background of the conflict, the role of EU foreign policy as a laboratory of European integration, and the future of the security order in Europe.
We welcome everyone to join the following seminars organized by the Globalization & Law Network. The program and the registration link are available here.
