Lecture "The Business of International Organizations"

On 30 November, the Globalization & Law network will host Jan Klabbers, Professor of International Law from Helsinki University. 
He will present his work 'The Business of International Organizations' from 15.30-17.30 h. CET.

International organizations law is stuck in a rut. Having been formulated a century ago, it has not developed much since, and has failed to keep up with practice. As a result there may be merit in taking international organizations law into a different direction, and a first step would be to reconsider its underlying theoretical framework. In order to do so, the paper proposes a political economy of international organizations law, focusing on international organizations as 'organizations' rather than as vehicles for states, and focusing on their interactions with the outside world, in particular the private sector. 

The paper is related to the ERC-sponsored project Privigo: International Organizations between Mission and Market.
