Successful Summerschool on EU Law in Septfontaines
On 3 July a group of dedicated EU lawyers, PhD researchers and students arrived at the Abbaye de Septfontaines in France in order to take part in a summer school on EU Law organized by Maastricht University for the first time. They were plunged into a secluded, unique, and magnificent environment coupled with a week of high-flying lectures on the function and functioning of the Court of Justice of the EU.
The renowned speakers included members of the Court itself and well known-academics and practitioners providing a sociological stance, a dissecting of the reasoning of the Court, insight into its procedures, complex relationships with other courts, and important Court rulings.
The event was characterised by the exquisite setting. Outdoor lectures were held by the Abbaye tower, lakes, streams and forests. The knowledge-sharing continued at mealtimes which placed young scholars and established professionals side by side. In the evenings, jam sessions featured the all too often untapped musical talents of EU lawyers.
All in all it was an exceptionally rich week in every way, and one to be repeated…
