‘Nobel Prize for Psychology’ for Harald Merckelbach
UM Professor Harald Merckelbach has been awarded the ‘Nobel Prize for Psychology’. De Psycholoog, the journal of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP), created this unofficial award on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary.
Hundreds of people voted on the NIP website for psychologists nominated during an earlier round of voting. Merckelbach won in the category ‘national, contemporary’ due to his ‘important contributions to research into legal psychology’. Daniel Kahneman, Nico Frijda, and Carl Rogers also received prizes. They won ‘Nobel prizes’ in the categories ‘international contemporary, ‘national posthumous’, and ‘international posthumous’.
Harald Merckelbach is a professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology; specialisation Psychology and Law at the Department of Forensic Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology & Neuroscience (FPN).
