Drs Maurice Zeegers (M.P.)
Prof. Dr. Maurice P. Zeegers is Professor of Complex Genetics & Epidemiology at Maastricht University, affiliated with NUTRIM and CAPHRI. His expertise includes meta-research, systematic reviews, research methodology, and observational epidemiology, with particular focus on oncology and uro-oncology.
He leads an international meta-research team of approximately 25 researchers, primarily PhD candidates, dedicated to improving the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of health research. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and four books. His work has been widely cited (>25,000 citations, h-index: 80) and is included in the Stanford/Elsevier global citation database of highly cited scientists (Ioannidis et al.), which identifies the top 2% worldwide.
Maurice previously served as Head of School of CAPHRI and as Chair or Vice-Chair of national and European epidemiological associations. His work is guided by a core principle: strengthening health decision-making through robust evidence and rigorous methodology rather then ideology.
Alongside his academic responsibilities, he is involved in small-scale beekeeping, the stewardship of a traditional property in Greece, and the development of educational materials, including the Textbook of Epidemiology.
