Studio Europa Launches Policy Brief Series on the Digital Services Act and Democracy in the Digital Age
On 15 May 2025, Studio Europa Maastricht launched its new Policy Brief Collection on Digitalisation, a multidisciplinary effort exploring how the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) shapes our digital future. With the DSA in effect for over a year, the collection examines how regulation can uphold democracy, safeguard fundamental rights, and promote well-being in an increasingly digital society. The policy brief, authored by Maastricht University experts, cover topics ranging from online misinformation and AI risks to social media's influence on teenagers and digital health data transparency.
Studio Europa curated this collection to inform policy with research-based insights and foster critical reflection on digitalisation’s promises and pitfalls. The preparation of this policy brief series was a collaborative effort involving multiple UM faculties working on the cross-cutting theme ‘disinformation and democracy,’ supported by sector plan funding.
