Strawberries and a personal message for the elderly in Maastricht

MAASTRICHT – Once again, our students are doing their best to support others during this time of crisis. Last week the Maastricht Student Association Tragos, Student Association Circumflex and Student Association KoKo organized the Maastricht Chamber of Associations (MKvV) Strawberry Initiative: a fresh bowl of strawberries with a personal message for the elderly in Maastricht.

The elderly are more at risk of being affected by the current corona virus. Due to less visits from family and friends, they often miss social interactions. For many elderly people, the corona crisis is therefore a gloomy and above all lonely time. To give these elderly people a positive boost, student associations in Maastricht joined forces and organized the Strawberry Initiative for them. Initiator Dionne: "What could be better than a delicious bowl of strawberries of the best quality?"

Students and reunists from the student associations could reserve bowls of strawberries at Strawberry Nursery Bouwmans. They added a personal message, a poem, or a nice anecdote to these bowls in order to give lonely elderly people a smile on their face. In total, the members and reunists of the student associations donated 400 cups of strawberries. Tuesday afternoon they went out to deliver them!

When delivering, the safety measures of the RIVM were taken into account. In addition, the deliverers wore mouth masks and gloves for extra hygiene.

It is great to see how these students want to contribute and help others in the current crisis! Click here for previous stories about initiatives by our students.

The MKvV is a collaboration between the three largest student associations in Maastricht: M.S.V. Tragos, SV Circumflex, and SV KoKo. The three student associations work closely together throughout the year to organize various activities for their members and the residents of Maastricht, such as a charity week, a Kiekske in de Keuke and an MVV competition with drinks in the business lounge.
