Research on AI in the workplace: Dr. Roman Briker wins Hustinx Science Award
The School of Business and Economics is proud to share that Dr. Roman Briker, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour, has been awarded the 2025 Hustinx Science Award.
This prestigious annual award from the Edmond Hustinx Foundation honours a promising researcher at Maastricht University whose work pushes the boundaries of science through innovative research. The prize, worth €15,000, is designed to support outstanding talent and encourage further scientific exploration.
Exploring the intersection of people and technology
Dr. Briker’s research focuses on how processes of social influence develop within organisations, not only between people, but also between people and machines, such as artificial intelligence (AI). His work sheds light on crucial questions of trust, collaboration, and leadership in today’s digital era, where technology increasingly shapes the way we work and interact.
In addition to his research, Dr. Briker is recognised as a passionate ambassador for Open Science. By making research more accessible, transparent, and relevant to society, he demonstrates how academia can have a direct and lasting impact beyond university walls.
The award is a tremendous honour. It came completely out of the blue, so it was a special surprise. The award gives me both assurance and hope that diving into the psychology and management of AI (as well as open science) around 6 years ago was and is the right choice for my academic career. I hope the funds will enable me to continue doing research that makes a difference not only in academia but also in the daily lives of workers and policy-makers. I want to thank everybody involved (especially the Hustinx foundation, the committee, and my great collaborators) for making this award possible!
Dr. Roman Briker, Assistant Professor of Organisational BehaviourCelebrating success
