Co-edited special issue by MCEL member Lilian Tsourdi on migration governance through funding in Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies 23(1)
This special issue, co-edited by Lilian Tsourdi and Federica Zardo, explores migration governance through funding while providing unique empirical insights into its design, rationale, use and implications. Combining political science, legal, and historical perspectives, the contributions assess what the instrumental use of migration funding reveals about the European (EU), American, and Australian approaches to migration and asylum, global responsibility sharing, and the changing nature of migration diplomacy. They also explore the ramifications of funds as a governance tool, analyzing how they may impact migrants’ rights, foster or hinder global responsibility sharing, and affect the rule of law. The special issue features 11 contributions, including a sole authored article by MCEL member Andreina de Leo.
