Bachelor’s Open Day: spring-like, smiling faces and good atmosphere
Last Saturday's Bachelor Open Day went very well. The biannual event attracted a large number of prospective students, two thirds of whom were from the Netherlands. Although it was slightly quieter than last year, we can once again consider this open day a success. The spring-like day ran smoothly, the atmosphere was excellent, and the feedback was largely very positive.
Sunny winter weather and mild temperatures provided ideal conditions for an open day. As a result, turnout was high: around 75% of those who registered attended, only 2% fewer than last year.
The attendees came to soak up the atmosphere and learn more about student life at Maastricht University. They received information about study programmes, Problem-Based Learning and practical matters such as application and admission.
The Bachelor's Open Day is held twice a year and is geared toward students in the final years of pre-university education (VWO). It’s especially helpful if you’re still unsure about which study programme is the best fit for you.

Insight into student life
The prospective students talked to tutors and asked questions to the student ambassadors at the information markets in the various buildings. The visitors took part in workshops, laboratory visits and guided tours around the city. These provided even more insight into student life in Maastricht.
The city walks were particularly popular and UM's cheerleaders, the Warriors, also attracted attention. At all six faculties, they displayed their skills to enhance the atmosphere. This year, prospective students were able to travel more quickly between the faculties in Randwyck and the city centre, thanks to an improved bus route.
The atmosphere was good, which was reflected in the feedback. Many visitors took the time to fill in the feedback form and most gave the day an eight or even higher rating. There were compliments for the organisation, the enthusiasm on the part of students and teachers, and of course the quality of the regional delicacy that was served: Limburg vlaai.
To be recommended
Most respondents would recommend the day to others. A couple of their responses:
“Everyone was so kind and helpfull! You could ask everyone all your questions and they were so openhearted, I really enjoyed the Open Day!!”
“I liked it when the students came out and spoke about their experience.”
“I really liked the whole vibe. It was a very open and encouraging atmosphere.”
