Anique de Bruin to become the new Scientific Director of SHE
As of 1 July 2025, Professor Anique de Bruin will take on the role of Scientific Director of the School of Health Professions Education (SHE). She will succeed Professor Pim Teunissen, who will step down due to his appointment as Vice Dean, effective 1 June 2025.
Since 2019, Professor De Bruin has served as Professor of Self-Regulation in Higher Education within the Department of Educational Development and Research. As a recipient of the NWO Vidi grant, she explores the complexity of self-regulation in learning and how this process can be supported to enhance students’ capacity for self-directed learning. She is also the founder and project lead of Study Smart, the evidence-informed learning strategies programme implemented across all faculties at Maastricht University and at 13 other higher education institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.
Anique considers it both an honour and a pleasure to take on a leadership role within the dynamic and thriving SHE community. She says:
“I look forward to working in my new role with colleagues both within and beyond SHE to further strengthen its innovative and impactful education and research programme. I am also excited to help shape strategic opportunities for (inter)national collaboration and partnerships, and in doing so contribute to the future of high-quality healthcare education.”
