Marga ter Maat (M.J.A.)

Marga is a PhD candidate at the Maastricht Sustainability Institute. 

Her research, part of the ERC project Food ChariTIES, focuses on the field of charitable food provision and explores the relationships between food charities, clients, and local authorities. By studying how food support systems evolve and how the urban poor navigate these systems to survive, she aims to contribute to a better understanding of how food support systems shape and are shaped by people in poverty.

Her research interests include socioeconomic systems and their legitimacy, charitable food provision, power dynamics in organisations, urban ethnography, economic sociology, digital commons, cryptocurrency communities, and participatory research methodologies.
