In Memoriam Nicolette Siep
Last Tuesday, our beloved colleague Nicolette Siep has passed away at the age of 43.
Nicolette spent most of her career working at Maastricht University. After graduating from the Faculty of Psychology & Neuroscience (FPN), she worked as a researcher at the same faculty. In 2010, Nicolette obtained a doctorate after doing research into eating disorders. As an fMRI specialist, Nicolette stayed at FPN to work as a postdoctoral researcher and did research into borderline personality disorder, depression, antisocial personality disorder, and alcohol addiction amongst others.
After briefly leaving UM, Nicolette returned in 2020 to work as a scientific information specialist at the University Library. In this role, she worked closely with FPN, the faculty she was so passionate about.
Nicolette was a dedicated colleague with a critical mind. Sometimes even quirky with her sense of humor. Her ability for keen analysis and her strong motivation made her work impactful. Nicolette had a strong network within FPN and, with a unique insider perspective, she perfectly understood the needs regarding collections and education in information literacy skills. Nicolette was also very dedicated to the professionalisation of the systemic literature review support. During her work at the University Library, Nicolette worked mostly behind the scenes but paved the way for better service.
Dear Nicolette, we will miss you and your enthusiasm and critical mind. Our thoughts go out to your daughters, family, and loved ones. We wish them much strength with this terrible loss.

On Thursday 9 February at 16.00 pm, there will be an informal gathering to commemorate Nicolette. All UM employees are welcome. Location: Endepolsdomein 150, Maastricht.
