Professional career history
Kaj Thomsson heads the development of the new Emerging Markets programme in the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University. He holds a BA degree in Economics from Stockholm University, an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, and a PhD in Economics from Yale University in the United States. His primary areas of research interest are political economy, broadly defined to include the history of political and economic institutions, as well as development economics and environmental economics. In addition to developing the Emerging Markets programme, Kaj teaches courses on political economy, microeconomics, development economics and globalization. He has also been a visiting faculty member at the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania, where he developed and taught a course on the global political environment of business.
