My main research interests lie in:
a) exploring the possibilities as well as the impossibilies of applying theories and methods of the cognitive sciences (especially linguistics, neurolinguistics, and darwinian evolutionary theory) to the study of poetry and literature, music and the visual arts
b) exploring the history and conceptual framework of the theory of poetry
c) the role of the Dutch political essay in contemporary thinking about democracy
