Since januari 2002 Jan de Roder (1958) is assistant professor at the Department of Literature & Art of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University. He has a Ph.D. (Hoofdstukken over Simon Vestdijk, Chapters on Simon Vestdijk, 2001) from Radboud University, Nijmegen, where he studied Dutch Language and Literature. He has been a freelance publisher, researcher, and editor from 1990 until 2002. From 2001 until 2007 he was co-editor of Armada: Tijdschrift voor wereldliteratuur (Armada: Journal on World Literature) and from 1997 until 2002 co-editor of the Nijmegen-based literary journal Parmentier. He has been awarded the five-yearly Essay Price of the Royal Academy for Dutch Language and Literature in 2003.
