Student-Meet Vol. 14: “I can’t do this… yet!” – This is where growth begins

-

Ever caught yourself thinking “I’ll never be able to do this” or “I’m just bad at this class” ? Many of us react to setbacks in our lives this way, often without noticing how much these thoughts shape our motivation, effort, and confidence.

This Student-Meet is about recognising those moments and learning how to respond to them confidently.

In this relaxed, student-led workshop, we’ll explore what growth can look like and how you can respond to everyday (university) situations with growth. With our guest speaker Manuela Heins, interactive discussions, and simple exercises, you’ll reflect on your own habits and learn how to turn typical “I can’t do this” reactions into more constructive, growth-oriented responses.

Reflect while painting a growth coaster as a personal visual reminder for your desk – something that represents the idea that abilities develop through practice, feedback, and trying again. No artistic skills needed, all materials will be provided!

This session is for you if you:

  • sometimes feel stuck or discouraged in life
  • want practical ways to deal with setbacks with growth
  • are curious about how your mindset can influence learning
  • want to exchange experiences with other students in a low-pressure setting

Open to all UM students. Just bring yourself and your curiosity  – we’ll take care of the rest (including snacks and drinks) :)

This Student-Meet event is an initiative of ESAB, the Student Advisory Board of EDLAB, Maastricht University's Centre for Teaching & Learning.
