Princess Beatrix Lecture 2024 by Admiral Rob Bauer

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO’s highest-ranking military officer, will deliver the second Princess Beatrix Lecture at Sint Janskerk in Maastricht.

The lecture, titled “NATO in a new era of collective defence: If you want peace, prepare for war”, will examine NATO’s evolving role amidst unprecedented security challenges in Europe and beyond.

In the wake of rising global tensions and the ongoing war in Ukraine, Europe faces new threats that test the foundational principles of peace and security established over the last decades. NATO, which has expanded in response to these challenges, remains the cornerstone of European security. Admiral Bauer’s lecture will focus on the concept of societal resilience and how Europe can strengthen its collective defence to meet current and future threats.
