Maastricht University Science in Court Symposium
A Common Sense Approach To Expert Evidence: Scientists and legal practitioners explore how expert evidence is produced and understood by domestic and international courts.
The symposium will bring together expert witnesses at domestic and international courts from a range of disciplines. It will stimulate cross-disciplinary discussion about best practices and how courts can most effectively evaluate the quality of expert witness testimony.
The event is structured around two panel sessions, one addressing expert witness evidence in domestic courts and the other addressing expert witnesses before international tribunals. Each session brings together three speakers from different disciplines, ranging from traditional forensic sciences to social sciences and emerging technologies. It will be an interesting day to expert witnesses, academics, and lawyers.
