Description of the lecture: Introduction to qualitative methodologies and methods

Following on from the preceding course Methods for Policy Analysis, this lecture will provide a more extensive and in-depth overview of the most common qualitative methodologies used in policy-relevant research, as well as the main qualitative methods for data collection (e.g. interviews, focus groups, participant observation, document review, visual and other participatory methods, etc.). The lecture will discuss the kinds of data these methods offer, and their relative advantages and drawbacks, also taking into account practical considerations that researchers should take into account.
