Eating disorder ARFID: more than just ‘picky eating’

If you suffer from ARFID, you eat too little in quantity and/or avoid certain foods due to their texture, smell, taste, appearance or fear of aversive consequences like choking or vomiting. ARFID stands for ‘Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder’ and is a relatively ‘new’ and unknown diagnosis among the feeding and eating disorders.

It can occur in both children and adults, and is more than just ‘picky eating’ – it is a serious and life threatening mental disease. Therefore, researchers and therapists are paying more and more attention to ARFID. In this lecture, you will learn about the state of the art regarding this disorder (lecture in Dutch).
