Emilie Sitzia is an associate professor at the Department of Arts and Literature. She holds a PhD in French literature and culture (Turku, 2005). She was educated in France, Germany and Finland where she followed a double major in Art history and theory and French Literature.
Before coming to Maastricht Emilie was a lecturer at Abo Akademi University (Turku, Finland) (2001-2004) and a senior lecturer at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) (2005-1012).
Her research interests are 19th century Art Literature (such as art novels, art criticism and painters' texts) as well as Literary Art (paintings, illustrations, portraits of writers). She recently published Art in Literature, Literature in Art in 19th century France (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012).
