Enrico Wegner (E.)
Enrico Wegner is a PhD Candidate in Econometrics whose research lies at the intersection of time series econometrics, macroeconometrics, policy evaluation, and Bayesian econometrics, with a particular focus on causal inference in macroeconomics. His work aims to develop new macroeconometric methods that provide timely and policy-relevant insights for central banks and international organisations.
Before starting his PhD, Enrico worked and interned at the OECD’s Trade and Productivity Statistics Unit during his master’s studies. There, he contributed to the methodology behind the AIS Vessel Tracking Dashboard for real-time analysis of international merchandise trade, as well as to indicators of transport and insurance costs and merchandise trade prices. He later returned as an external consultant to the OECD. In 2025, he joined the Bank of England as a PhD intern, working on tools to analyse the transmission of structural shocks in dynamic macroeconomic models. A method he developed for studying monetary policy transmission was used in the Bank of England’s November 2025 Monetary Policy Report.
Enrico regularly presents his research at international conferences and workshops. He has given talks or poster presentations at the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting in Economic Sciences, EC2 2024, the Deutsche Bundesbank Vo-Seminar, and various other meetings in econometrics and macroeconomics.
He obtained a BSc in Econometrics and Operations Research and an MSc in Economic and Financial Research (specialisation Econometrics), both at Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics.
He teaches (as tutor) Quantitative Methods 3 for BSc International Business, Macroeconomics, and Probability Theory for BSc Econometrics and Operations Research.
