Interns are valuable members of the M-EPLI community. Together, this international group of motivated students speaks 16 different languages. Their research interests in the fields of property law, family law, contract law, commercial law, law and technology, privacy law, trade law, alternative dispute resolution, and comparative law, just to name a few, are equally diverse. The unifying element is, of course, private law!

Student Intern Coordinators
Manuela Paolini e Silva
Manuela is an honours LL.M. candidate at Maastricht University Faculty of Law following the Globalisation & Law programme. She is Italian/Brazilian and lived most of her life in Brazil, where she worked as an in-house counselor for a few tech companies before moving to the Netherlands. Besides her involvement with M-EPLI, she is also a research intern at METRO, the institute for transnational legal research in Maastricht. Her main research interests lies in Law & Tech, Company Law, EU Competition Law, as well as most topics in Law & Economics, but especially the economics of regulation. She speaks fluently Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
Natalie Benou
Natalie comes from Greece. She finished the European Law School LL.B at Maastricht University and is now a Master's student in the Forensics, Criminology and Law LL.M programme. Her research interests include competition law, data protection, privacy and AI, particularly as these areas intersect with criminal law. She speaks English, Greek and French.
Sabrina Tosi
Sabrina is an International laws LL.M. candidate, with focus on European law. Her research interests are in the areas of European competition law, consumer protection, and the legal framework regulating digital platforms and new technologies. She speaks Italian, English, Spanish and is currently learning German and French.
Student Interns
Elif Aytekin
Eflif is from Turkey. She is a third-year European Law School Bachelor's student at Maastricht University. She possesses a genuine passion for private law, with a specific focus on contract law, business law, corporate law, and commercial law. She is particularly intrigued by the Europeanization of these legal domains and the resulting implications for the legal world. Her aspiration is to contribute to meaningful research through the creation of research articles and policy briefs. She is fluent in both English and Turkish.
Isabel Bandsma
Isabel started her Bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law at Maastricht University in September 2020. She found it interesting to see how international and European regulations have contributed to the formation of Dutch law. In the third academic year of her Bachelor, she wanted to delve deeper into comparative legal research, which is why she joined the Dutch internship track at M-EPLI. She has really enjoyed her time at M-EPLI so far and looks forward to new projects in English and in Dutch. Her research interests are in the area of law and technology.
Chlóe Clemente
Chlóe is currently studying to obtain her L.L.B in European Law. She is Swiss, Spanish and Portuguese, and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Her main areas of interest are within private law, more specifically in the fields of tort and family law. She is also interested in exploring these fields from a comparative legal perspective.
Jose Duron Julià
Jose is from Barcelona. He completed his bachelor's in European Law and Business Management in Maastricht and Barcelona, respectively. He is currently pursuing an LLM in European and International Tax law, also in Maastricht. His research interests lie in international trade, investment law, economics and tax law. In his free time, he enjoys running, working out, watching football and F1.
Haidi Karapici
Haidi graduated from European Law School at Maastricht University in June 2023 with outstanding results. During her studies, she also successfully pursued a Minor in Business and Law, with expertise in European Private, Company, Business, and Tax law. She believes that she has developed numerous abilities during her academic career, including collaboration, teamwork, strong ethics, oral communication skills, and leadership. Currently, she is following an Advanced Master Program at Maastricht University on Intellectual Property and Knowledge Management. She is open to conducting research in all branches of law; however, her strongest assets are IP and business law. She considers herself as a knowledgeable, cooperative, and open-minded person.
Otso Karttunen
Otso is a third year European Law School Bachelor's student. His research interests are technology, technology law, cybersecurity, and privacy. His native tongue is Finnish, but he is fluent in English and can also speak Swedish.
Lena Salewski
Lena is in her third year of the European Law Bachelor's degree. Her interests lie within substantive European Union law, competition law, family and labour law, private international law and the overarching theme of sustainability. Through a course she took at the University of Edinburgh during her exchange, she has also become interested in new methods of legal research, particularly feminist legal research methods. She is fluent in English and German.
Kimmy Shah
Kimmy majors in Law and enjoys learning about new topics and research methods. Recently, she is particularly interested in topics that relate to Law and Technology. She is fluent in English.
Laurane Snoeck
Laurane is a Master's student in International Laws in the English Track. Her research interests consist of Data Protection, Privacy, Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence. She is interested in looking at how technology can be regulated by law as well as the effectiveness of the current legislations on the available technologies. In addition to English, she also speaks French.
Mari Vasileva
Mari is a Bachelor's student in the European Law School. As a communicative and driven individual, she is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and contributing to the legal community. Her research interests are centered around contract, company, business, and corporate law. She is enthusiastic about exploring and analyzing the complexities of contractual relationships, corporate governance, and the legal framework that governs businesses.
Marielene Wertenbroek
Marielène is currently finalizing her LLM in Dutch Law with a specialization in Commercial- and Company Law. Hence, her research interests are mainly in the field of commercial and corporate law. Apart from that, she is interested in property law, and has a special interest in punitive damages and US law in general. She speaks Dutch, English, and Spanish and could assist with projects in any of those languages.
Sum Oi Jasmine Yu
Jasmine is a dedicated student from Hong Kong who possesses an unwavering interest in the legal industry, with a focus on legal technology, stemming from her Bachelor's in the United Kingdom. She is also a firm believer in social justice and is devoted to fostering a more equitable and inclusive legal system by providing legal support to underrepresented communities. In addition, she engages in various extracurricular activities, including research projects and coding courses, to stay current in the ever-evolving field of legal developments.
