Anna-Lena Arlt, BSc Global Studies
Hello, my name is Anna-Lena Arlt and I am in my second year of Global Studies. What I appreciate the most about this program is the fact that all faculties of Maastricht University are equally involved in it.
Looking for a study program was difficult for me as I have interests in different fields such as economics, the environment, ethics or also tech-related topics and their social impact. For me, Global Studies presented the ideal package and the interdisciplinary exchange and this way of learning brings me a lot of joy! I am always looking forward to our fruitful tutorial discussions and I also profit so much from the problem-based-learning (PBL) here at UM.
Our program also includes Data Science and some programming that we learn how to tackle global (social) problems with data solutions. I also joined a UM podcast about the different stories from people working in the field of Data Science (@dsmindsets).
Another amazing aspect of this programme is the strong student community we have. We even founded an association just for Global Studies where we organise events together or just hang out in our free time. This also makes it easier to get to know people and find friends when you move to a new city.
Talking about the city, Maastricht is simply incredible for students. There are so many cafés, parks, study spots or bars to discover and it never gets boring. I instantly fell in love with this place when I visited it for the first time. I can only encourage everyone who is interested in the programme to visit us during an Open Day or ‘Student for a Day’ event at FASoS, so hopefully see you soon in Maastricht!
