"From ‘Real-World’ Data to Quality Improvement Applying Epidemiological Methods in Cardiac Care"
Good cardiac care requires reliable information about patients, treatments, and outcomes. This thesis investigated how existing data from routine healthcare can be used to better understand and improve the quality of cardiac care in the Netherlands.
For this purpose, several national data sources were used, including the Netherlands Heart Registration (NHR), the Dutch National Hospital Care Registration (LBZ), and Statistics Netherlands (CBS). These data provide valuable insights into developments in cardiac care and differences between patients and treatments. By combining different data sources and epidemiological methods, a more comprehensive picture of the quality of cardiac care can be obtained.
Doctors can use these insights to evaluate care processes within their own centres and initiate improvement initiatives. The NHR provides a platform that supports this process and contributes to the further improvement of cardiac care.
