MMM Competition
On 31 January 2026, SBE hosted the 30th edition of the Maastricht Mathematical Modeling Competition (MMM), organized by Marc Schröder (SBE, QE) and Gijs Schoenmakers (FSE, DACS).
Almost 40 teams of secondary school students from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany worked in small groups to tackle challenging mathematical modeling problems throughout the day. While the students competed, their teachers attended a parallel program of talks by Christopher Kops (SBE, QE), Philippe Dreesen (FSE, DACS), Ivan Ricardo (SBE, QE), and Matus Mihalak (FSE, DACS), covering topics ranging from linear algebra and data analysis to mathematics education. The day concluded with a presentation of the solutions and the prize ceremony.
