Film: The Librarians: Who Decides What We Read?
Who gets to decide which stories are told and which are not? The Librarians is a powerful documentary about censorship, free access to information, and the wider social debate surrounding books and ideas.
The Librarians follows librarians in the United States under pressure to remove books about racism, gender and LGBTQIA+ themes from school libraries. What begins as a debate about books quickly reveals itself to be part of a broader political struggle. Together with Maastricht Young Academy (MYA) and UM Library, Lumière cinema presents this timely documentary, followed by an English-language panel discussion on censorship, democracy and free access to information, moderated by Katleen Gabriels.
