Become a bystander intervention trainer with Green Dot

Are you passionate about fostering a safer and more inclusive university community? Do you enjoy giving workshops and working with colleagues and students? We’re looking for colleagues to become Green Dot trainers at UM and play an active role in preventing sexual harassment, sexual violence and other behaviour of a sexual nature that crosses boundaries.

What is Green Dot?

Green Dot is an evidence-based bystander intervention and prevention programme. Participants learn practical skills to recognise and safely intervene in situations that could lead to sexual violence or other forms of harm. This includes situations involving:

  • unwanted sexual comments, jokes or messages
  • repeated or unwanted sexual attention or harassment
  • sharing sexual images without consent
  • unwanted touching
  • pressure or coercion to engage in sexual activity
  • assault

The programme focuses on building a community culture in which everyone feels responsible and empowered to take action in safe and effective ways.

Why become a trainer?

Becoming a Green Dot trainer gives you the opportunity to:

  • help colleagues develop the skills to intervene when they notice sexually transgressive behaviour
  • further develop your facilitation and public speaking skills
  • join a supportive team of Green Dot trainers across UM
  • make meaningful connections with colleagues and students who participate in your workshops

What will you do?

As a Green Dot trainer, you will:

  • receive comprehensive training and ongoing support
  • lead 1.5-hour interactive workshops for groups of 15 to 50 participants
  • deliver workshops in English and/or Dutch, depending on which language you feel comfortable using
  • support follow-up activities, such as booster sessions and campaigns

Who are we looking for?

You do not need to be an expert in sexual safety to become a trainer. We are looking for colleagues who are motivated and open to learning.

You may be a good candidate if:

  • you are enthusiastic about contributing to a safer university community
  • you are a confident communicator with an interest in public speaking
  • you can facilitate discussions and engage groups

Time commitment

To become a Green Dot trainer this year, you must be available for the two-day initial training on:

  • Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 November 2026

After the initial training, the expected time commitment is approximately 8 hours per month, within your UM contract. This usually includes one to two workshops, a booster activity (such as on Green Dot Day) and a team meeting. Follow-up training and intervision with all trainers is organised as part of the team meetings.

Please make sure you have support from your manager to dedicate this time to Green Dot.
