"Phosphorus based polymers for drug-delivery and sensing applications"
Ramiro Marroquin Garcia drew inspiration for his doctoral research from nature, where the chemical element phosphorus is one of the most essential elements enabling life as we know it. Phosphorus, in the form of a phosphate bond, ensures the stability of our genetic material (DNA).
García investigated how two phosphorus-containing molecules could be used to create functional materials (polymers). He then applied these polymers to detect illegal drugs and in the biomedical field.
