Marte Henningsen (M.E.)

I am a PhD researcher in the department of Philosophy at Maastricht University (FASoS), with a focus on critical philosophy of technology. In my PhD project, I focus on narratives surrounding the advertisement of GenAI models for the use in (higher) education using Pragmatism and Critical Theory. Through interviews with teachers I analyse how these narratives translate into their practices. With this project, I advocates for a use-case focused tech development that includes the users of the technology (here: students, teachers, administrators) in the design process.

Career history

I have a technical background and finished Bachelor degrees in both Computational Engineering and Computer Science at the Leibniz University n(GER) and a Masters degree in Cognitive Science  at Osnabrück University (GER). In my Masters degree, I turned towards Philosophy as I worked closely with the working group on Ethics and Critical Theories of AI at the University of Osnabrück. My expertise lies in Ethics of AI and Philosophy of Technology. Additionally, I have an activist background through engagement with the climate movement Fridays For Future (FFF) and different university groups in Hannover and Osnabrück. There I advocated for feminism, global justice, and workers strikes.
