"MicroRNAs in fracture healing and its treatment"
This thesis investigated the role and expression of microRNAs in fracture healing and its treatment. The first part of this thesis focused on the expression of microRNAs in the normal fracture healing cascade as well as in a novel surgical tool that can be used to create a material to fill large bone defects. The second part aimed to investigate the expression of microRNAs in the setting of multiple trauma, with a particular focus on different surgical treatment strategies. Finally, the third part studied the expression of microRNAs after multiple trauma in the systemic circulation and the effect of a novel immunomodulatory therapy on the expression of microRNAs at the fracture site and in the systemic circulation.
