In Memoriam Edina Zecevic
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Edina Zecevic, Network Administrator at the ICT Service Centre, on 8 February 2024. She passed away far too early, at the age of 65.
Edina was born on October 5th, 1958, in Vlasenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to the ravages of war, Edina had to flee in 1994, where she quickly met her great love, Edwin, at the AZC in Echt. Marked by the violence of war, but also the resilient fighter that she was, she was determined to build a new life in the Netherlands. Consequently, she quickly joined Maastricht University. In 1996, Edina began her career as a data communication system programmer, then at the Information, Communication, and Automation Service. After various organisational changes, Edina found her true calling at the ICT Service Centre as a technical application manager. She excelled in this role until very recently when, due to her illness, she could no longer serve as a network administrator.
Edina's dedication was admirable; despite the challenges of a new language and culture, she quickly learned Dutch and became a valued team member. Her work at the ICT Service Centre was infused with quality and professionalism. Edina was known for her commitment to delivering outstanding results and her ability to tackle complex challenges with determination and precision.
Edina's positivity and radiant smile were hallmarks of her personality. She was always willing to listen to colleagues and showed genuine interest in those around her. Edina exemplified resilience. In the spring of 2021, Edina was first struck by the dreadful illness. "A problem has been solved" were Edina's well-known words. In the summer of 2023, it seemed that Edina had won the battle, and she could utter these words once again. She was overjoyed to continue working at the ICT Service Centre with what she called 'her boys.' Unfortunately, this joy was short-lived. The illness returned, revealing an unfair fight that our brave Edina ultimately succumbed to.
Edina remains in our memories as an inspiring individual, a symbol of positivity, and determination. Her passing leaves a void, but the memory of Edina will endure within the ICT Service Centre.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her partner Edwin, family, and friends, wishing them strength and courage in coping with this sorrow.
