About

Dr. Astrid Offermans has a background in “Interdisciplinary social sciences” (Master program finished cum laude and with clear pass in 2006) and holds a PhD in sustainability science; more specifically in integrating social perspectives into a methodology to assess the social robustness of water management strategies (2012). Next to her PhD she worked on the NWO INSPIRATOR project on joint knowledge production, and national and European projects on integrating social dynamics into scenarios for water management.

Currently, she is working on the MUNPOP-SPIN program “Global Certifying Partnerships: a Southern perspective”. This joint research program between ICIS and the University of Lampung (Indonesia) analyzes social and economic effects of global certifying sustainability partnerships. The global coffee – and palm oil chains serve as main research fields.

Finally, Astrid is involved in education as teacher, course coordinator and lecturer at bachelor, master and PhD level. She is also involved in the supervision of 7 PhD projects on topics related to global certifying partnerships, sustainable forest management, and globalization and complexity.
