Tsjalling Swierstra appointed associated member COGEM
FASoS professor Tsjalling Swierstra has been appointed associate member of the Subcommittee Ethics and Societal Aspects of the Netherlands Committee on Genetic Modification (COGEM).
COGEM is an independent scientific advisory body that provides advice to the government on the risks to human health and the environment of the production and use of GMOs, and informs the government of ethical and societal issues linked to genetic modification.
The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management (IandW) appoints the 20 members of the organisation, the Executive board of COGEM further appoints 20 associated members.
All members are selected for their scientific expertise and do not represent any organisation. The members have expertise in different fields such as ecology, bacteriology, virology, genetically modified plants and animals, zoology, public perception and ethics.
