Jean Monnet Specialized lecture by Giuseppe Mazziotti on "Multi-territorial licensing of music rights in Europe: markets, industry-led solutions and regulation"

-

The Jean Monnet module "IP in the Digital Single Market" gladly presents a specialized lecture by Dr. Giuseppe Mazziotti, Assistant Professor of Law at Trinity College Dublin. On 10 November 2020, at 18:00, Dr. Mazziotti will discuss the implications of how music right holders in the EU license their works. Feel warmly invited to join the discussion. Please register here.

This lecture critically evaluates the impact of several regulatory initiatives the EU has undertaken, especially in the domain of collective rights management, with the aim to make the licensing of music copyright more modern, efficient, and transparent. The lecture provides an overview of today’s music distribution models and explains how online platforms, and the technologies these services created and rely upon, have influenced the way music right-holders license their rights (either collectively or individually) on a multi-territorial basis.

Giuseppe Mazziotti is an Italian law professor and legal counsel who specializes in intellectual property, EU law, information technology, media and cultural policies, Internet law and e-commerce. Giuseppe worked and held research positions at European and U.S. universities such as UC Berkeley, University of Copenhagen, Roma Tre University, Columbia University, Harvard and New York University. Since October 2014, he has been a law professor at Trinity College Dublin.
