It’s award season! The Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering congratulates all students who received awards for their excellent work.
MORSE 2021 Thesis Award for Anna-Lena Krause
The MORSE Thesis Awards recognize student theses for their potential impact on society.
Out of 13 nominations, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence bachelor's student Anna-Lena Krause won this year’s award. She wrote her thesis The relationship between air pollution and economic activity in the Netherlands under supervision of Christof Seiler and Alexia Briassouli.
UM Student Prizes for Krzysztof Cybulski and Frederik Calsius
The Dies Natalis – the university’s annual birthday celebration – traditionally awards prizes to the best bachelor’s and master’s theses of the year.
This year’s Bachelor Student Prize went to Krzysztof Cybulski. His thesis Reliable Deep Regression Using Overhead Images was the best of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme in 2021. He completed his thesis under supervision of Christof Seiler and Siamak Mehrkanoon.
Frederik Calsius took home the Master Student Prize with Fine Grained Action Recognition Of Skateboarding Tricks. Frederik’s thesis, which he wrote under supervision of Mirela Popa and Alexia Briassouli, won the award for last year’s best thesis in the master’s programmes in Artificial Intelligence and in Data Science for Decision Making.
